Virginia Mason Foundation
The Virginia Mason Foundation raises critical funds for Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, a regional health system based in Washington State. The foundation’s small communications team oversees a wide variety of content for donors, but doesn’t have the internal bandwidth to do the writing and editing on its own.
Since 2018, Message Lab has helped the foundation create and manage key publications and digital channels. Our work includes:
- Interviewing donors and writing monthly donor profiles. These are published on the foundation website and linked via an e-newsletter.
- Creating articles for a bimonthly e-news publication that is distributed to all foundation donors.
- Writing a semi-annual digital and print newsletter for the Bailey-Boushay House, which provides care for vulnerable populations suffering from HIV/AIDS and other serious health issues.
- Writing articles for the foundation’s annual report.
We’re working with one of the foundation’s key stakeholders – the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) – to better define their donor communications strategy and create more synergies between their content and frontline fundraising efforts. This work includes retooling their overarching strategy, developing short briefs that update fundraisers on BRI’s latest discoveries and using our recent reader survey to refine the content that donors receive.
